Summer is officially here in the Okanagan and there couldn’t be a better time to experience the breathtaking beauty of some of the best Okanagan wineries. If you’ve never been on a wine tour in the Okanagan, we’ve put together a list of suggestions to make sure your next Okanagan wine tour is your best!
Book in Advance
It’s no secret the Okanagan and Kelowna is a favourite wine tour destination for travellers and wine connoisseurs around the world. With this in mind, you’re going to want to book your wine tour package in advance to make sure you get the tour want.
Get An Empty Box For Wine
If you fancy a particular winery’s wine, you may want to bring a bottle or two home with you. While there’s no obligation to purchase wine when you’re at a tasting, we recommend you do if you find one you love.
However, to make sure your wine stays its best and isn’t ruined by the Okanagan summer heat, we recommend getting a box or even a styrofoam wine carrier to store your wines in to make sure they stay while you’re touring around other wineries. This also means you’ll have a place to put them in your car or tour bus.
Eat Like A Local
While the Okanagan is known for its wine, the region boasts some fine food as well! Making sure you eat throughout the day will make sure you stay feeling your best and will keep you from getting too tipsy at your tasting. Many of our tours here at Cheers even include lunch in the tour pricing!
Have an Answer to the Question “What Type Of Wine Do You Like?”
Now, this doesn’t mean you have to be an expert! But you should be prepared to answer this question to give your hosts some kind of inclination towards what kinds of wine you like. Many hosts also like to use this question as an ice-breaker.
It could even be something simple like specifying you like dry wines or sweet white wines. However, you should let them know if you’re open to trying new types. In fact, we recommend this!
Where better to try new wines than a tasting room? You don’t have to splurge on a whole bottle and aren’t left with most of a bottle if you don’t like the wine. Even an answer such as, “I like many types of wine. What would you recommend I start with?” would suffice.
Book Transportation
Even if you’re spitting and not swallowing at tastings, you may want to consider booking transportation for your next wine tour in the Okanagan. All those tastings can add up and book transportation means you can keep sipping without worries.
